Acrylic Painting Techniques

In this basic painting class students will learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of ways. Paint mixing, texturizing, stamping, block-out and sgraffito processes will be taught. Abstract and animal subjects will be used to create colorful and dynamic compositions and finished art pieces. Please dress for mess as acrylic paints will stain clothing. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 5-7

In this mixed-media class students will design and construct 3-dimensional animal sculptures and a decorative mask out of paper mache and other arts and crafts materials. The first two days will entail constructing the projects. On the last day students will paint and add embellishments to their sculptures for finishing. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 5-7

Students will create either a self-portrait or a symbolic portrait using low fire clay. Basic slab and coil handbuilding techniques will be taught. Projects not picked up by Friday, Sept. 28 will be recycled. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 5-7

This class will introduce students to various drawing materials; graphite, markers, colored pencils, oil and chalk pastels. Class projects will focus on still life observation, cartoons and children's book illustration examples. Students will use different fabrics, embroidery threads, inks, fabric markers and other embellishments to create a 2-dimensional fabric collage image. Each student will transform an 12” x 8” piece of plain muslin into a colorful and dynamic composition perfect for hanging on the wall. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 5-7

In this mixed-media sculpture class students will design and construct futuristic planes, automobiles, gliders, whirly birds and whatever other moveable contraptions you can think of. Basic drawing, painting, collage and sculpture techniques will be covered and various 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art pieces made with arts and crafts materials.

Do you love to draw animals? In this class students will learn how to use foundational art elements to accurately draw different kinds of animals. Use of line, shapes, form, texture and color will be combined with basic drawing and painting skills. Classroom projects will focus on how to place an animal in its environment to accurately represent the species.

Each day students will focus on a different art form. Relief printmaking techniques, tempera and watercolor painting techniques, and mixed-media collage techniques will be covered. Students will learn how to design, illustrate and engineer a one-of-a-kind tunnel book. What’s a tunnel book you ask? It's a 3-dimensional book with a “stage-like” window containing different layers of images. Students will start by designing their book's image. Then we'll separate the information into different foreground, mid-ground and background layers and construct the book. Basic drawing and collage techniques will be covered.

Students will use glass and ceramic mosaic pieces to create a colorful and decorative keepsake box. The inside of the boxes will be painted and the bottom covered with felt. Gyotaku Fish Prints

“Gyotaku” is the ancient Japanese folk art of painting fish. The first Gyotaku were created to preserve the true record and size of species caught by Japanese anglers as far back as 1862. Students will use rubber molds created from real fish and sea life and relief block inks to create colorful and interesting relief print Gyotaku fish images. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 5-7
