WEEK ONE CLASSES June 11 - 15:

Learn to Knit
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, June 11-15
$149 Members / $165 Non-members

Morning

Knitting is based on two stitches- knit and purl. We will learn them both, as well as how to cast on and bind off. We will use these core skills to make a pocket purse and several sample squares. You will complete this class feeling comfortable with knitting. Class tuition provides #8 knitting needles and 200 yards worsted weight wool. Enrollment limited to 12, ages 10-12

Stone Carving
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, June 11-15

Learn the techniques of a stone sculptor by carving, filing, and sanding limestone blocks into artistic 3-dimensional art pieces. Traditional carving techniques will be taught and historical stone sculptures referenced. These unique art pieces will last a lifetime. Enrollment limited to 12, ages 10-12

Interior Design
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, June 18-22

Students will choose a color scheme and design handmade bedroom accessories to coordinate and update their bedrooms. Projects will include a hand-dyed throw pillow, painted and embellished picture frames, a hand decorated paper lantern, and a small hand-tied throw blanket (to name a few). This is a great class for those students interested in interior design and mixed-media art disciplines. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Do you love to create cartoons and comics? In this drawing class we'll look at different cartoon and comic styles for inspiration and then create some of our own. Students will learn how to develop cartoon characters, write storylines and create cartoon strips and comic books. Join us and discover your hidden cartoon genius! Enrollment limited to 16, ages 7-9

Acrylic Painting Techniques

In this painting class students will learn the basics of using acrylic paint. Projects will focus on how to; mix and control gradations in color, stamp, blend, dry-brush, create washes, utilize collage, texturize and use acrylic modifiers. Observational and skill building goals will be covered to instruct students on how to break down an image into simple shapes, dark and light, warm and cool colors, and train the eye to see reflective light. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Tech Decks: Skate Park Design

Kick Flip a Euro Gap! Each camper will produce a miniature skateboard park to take home. We will hone our spatial thinking, planning and organizational skills. The class introduces Optical Art, impossible figures and elements of design. This is a fun and imaginative class based on skateboarding. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Drawing Skills

In this class we will start out with simple lessons covering basic drawing techniques and foundational elements, and build them into successful and finished drawings. Graphite pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, and markers will be the materials used. Subject matter will cover still lifes, animals, portraits and landscapes. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Handbuilt Ceramics
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, July 9-13

In this ceramics class students will create functional and decorative clay pieces using basic handbuilding techniques. A self-portrait bust, decorative sculptures and functional ware are a few of the possible projects students will make and glaze. Due to the nature of the bisque and glaze firing process, projects will need to be picked up 3 weeks after the last class day. Projects not picked up by Friday, Sept 28 will be recycled. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Comic Arts
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, July 9-13

Students will look at various cartoon drawing styles and use them as inspiration for developing their own comic characters. We will learn how to develop heroes, villains and side-kicks, write short comics and sketch, ink and finish our comic images. Drawing materials will include pen & ink, graphite, markers, watercolor and colored pencils.

Theatre Arts
Five Full-days, (All-day, Morning & Afternoon)

Lunch break from 12-1 PM

Students must bring a bag lunch and snacks as needed for this all-day class. Are you an extroverted or imaginative person who loves acting and creating? If so, then this is the class for you! This is a full-day class where students will develop, write and create a play from concept to finished piece. Students will spend the week writing their scripts, practicing their parts, designing costumes, props and the set. On the last class day students perform their play for family and friends from 3:00 - 3:30 PM. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Drawing to Painting
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, July 23-27

Drawing and painting are at the foundation of nearly all art. We will start out by learning basic drawing techniques and build them into successful watercolor, tempera and acrylic paintings. Realistic and abstract subjects will be explored and basic color mixing and painting techniques covered. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Ceramic Sculpture

Using basic handbuilding techniques students will create a variety of functional and decorative ceramic sculptures. Projects will either be painted or glaze fired. Are you daring with your wardrobe? This class will teach students how to deconstruct and redesign everyday t-shirts and jeans into fashionable accessories, skirts, vests and more. Students will learn basic hand and machine sewing techniques while learning how to design wearable art work. All participants need to bring; one plain white t-shirt, two color t-shirts and one pair of jeans to modify in classes. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Mosaic Table Art

Mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, clay tiles, stone, or other materials. In this class students will start by creating a set of mosaic coasters to learn about the process and techniques. We will then design a 12-inch square side table with a mosaic top and wooden legs. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Comic Arts

In this class students will learn that woodcarving is more than just whittling. Woodcarving techniques, proper use of tools, and safety will all be demonstrated and discussed in class. Students will make multiple wood carved projects including relief and free-standing sculptures. Enrollment limited to 12, ages 10-12

WEEK TEN CLASSES August 13 - 17

Tea for Two
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, August 13-17

Project pick up: Monday, Sept. 10

Students will spend two days on the wheel and three days handbuilding in this class to create a functional tea set. Wheel thrown projects will include tea cups and sugar bowls. Handbuilt projects will include a tea pot, saucers and lids. All projects will be glaze fired for finishing. Due to the nature of the bisque and glaze firing process, projects will need to be picked up 3 weeks after the last class day. Projects not picked up by Friday, Sept 28 will be recycled. Enrollment limited to 12, ages 10-12

In this class students will learn basic sculpture techniques and have the opportunity to experiment with various mediums. Wire, plaster, wood, foam core and fabric will all be used to create abstract and realistic, hard and soft sculptures. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12

Tie-Dye & Bleach Art
Five 1/2-days, Monday-Friday, August 20-24

Students will learn how to add pigment with dyes and remove pigment with bleach pens to create rich and colorful dyed fabric surfaces. Handmade t-shirts, throw pillows, and a small table runner are just a few of the possible projects we can make. Students will need to bring two plain white t-shirts and two color t-shirts to class. Enrollment limited to 16, ages 10-12
