The goal of the 2008 Summer Arts Camp at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts is to provide visual arts education that is fun and creative. We offer age-appropriate workshops for girls and boys ages 5 through 12.

If you would like a free Summer Arts Camp catalog mailed to you, please call 952.473.7361, ext.16, or send an e-mail with your request to registration@minnetonkaarts.org.

Morning classes are from 9:30 AM to 12 PM and afternoon classes run from 1 PM to 3:30 PM. Campers 7-years old and older may enroll for morning and afternoon sessions held on the same day. For campers who register for a full-day there is also a supervised lunch period; campers must bring lunch with them. All classes take a break in the morning and afternoon, giving the children a chance to snack. Please send an appropriate snack with your child. The Art Center does not provide snacks.

Class lengths are 1/2 day. Workshops for 5 to 6-year-olds are one to three days in length. Classes for ages 7 and older are five days or ten days in length, except the week of July 4. The Art Center is closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday. The morning and afternoon classes are different for ages 8 to 12 so the camper can attend two different workshops in a day. (Put on a Play is a full-day class.) Campers ages 5 to 6 may only attend one 1/2-day class per day.

Summer Arts Camp encourages creativity and self-expression through supervised arts exploration. More than 50 class offerings build important skills and utilize a wide variety of materials and tools. Classes are grouped by age level so campers are challenged but working on projects within their capacity. While some classes in the 7 to 9-year-old and 10 to 12-year-old groups have the same titles and very similar descriptions, the instructors are teaching at the appropriate age level.

Classes and all other activities will be held in the new Minnetonka Center for the Arts building. Weather permitting, some classes and breaks may be held outside on the Art Center grounds.

CAMP INSTRUCTORS
The instructors for the Summer Arts Camp are all college graduates who are either working artists with experience in teaching children or teachers with an art education background.
Camp assistants are college students who have an interest in teaching or are currently studying to be teachers. Most of our instructors and assistants return from year to year to teach and assist in Summer Arts Camp. In addition to the assigned instructor, most classes will have at least one assistant.

Campers who withdraw seven full days prior to camp start will receive a full refund of fees less a $5.00 administrative fee. Campers who withdraw less than seven days prior to the class start will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued on or after the start of the class. Campers may transfer from one class to another up to seven days in advance with a $5.00 administrative fee.
In cases of documented illness, campers may transfer classes until the first day of class, subject to availability, with a $5.00 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after the start of the class due to illness.

In the event the Art Center must cancel a session due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be issued. If we must cancel a session, we will notify parents before the class is scheduled to start. Minnetonka Center for the Arts reserves the right to cancel classes that do not have enrollment of six or more students. To assure that each student has a good learning experience, Summer Arts Camp classes have a maximum number of students of 16 per class (maximum 12 students in photography classes). In addition to the assigned instructor, most classes will have at least one assistant.

CAMP ATTIRE
Children should dress appropriately for art projects. Many classes use dyes, inks or paints that may stain hands and clothing. Dress your child in old clothing or send an apron or work shirt, as the Art Center cannot be responsible for clothing that is damaged in an art class. Weather permitting, campers will take their breaks on the grounds and should have appropriate clothing to wear outside.
