UPCOMING FAMILY FREE DAYS AT HENNEPIN COUNTY LIBRARIES
Minnetonka Center for the Arts is collaborating with Hennepin County Libraries to bring you a number of fun and fantastic Free Day activities for children grades K-6th. Each library location is offering a different visual arts workshop taught by Art Center staff so children can experience various art forms throughout the spring and summer months. Space is limited to 20 participants per workshop activity, so register your child early to ensure a spot (the libraries are taking all registrations). These are totally FREE activities, so no fee is required with registration. As always, Free Days are appropriate for children of all skill levels and abilities. Please join us for these events and create fun art projects to take home.

Playful Puppets Workshop
Come create some playful puppets! In this mixed-media workshop children and adults can make various kinds of handheld puppets. Paints, glitter glue, moveable eyes, markers, feathers and pipe cleaners are some of the art materials that will be used. At the end of the workshop you can put on a puppet show!

Project: “Where the Art Things Are”
Do you love the illustrations and art work of Maurice Sendak? We do! In this class students will read, discuss and use the fantastically creative book Where the Wild Things Are as inspiration for their own “wild art works”. Various mixed-media 2-dimensional and 3-dimension art pieces will be created.

Project: “Drawing with Dr. Seuss”
The doctor is in! Using the many stories and imaginative illustrations of Dr. Seuss as inspiration, students will create their own 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional creative characters and extraordinary environments. This is a great mixed-media class for kids who love to work and experiment with many different drawing materials!

Project: Handmade Books
Children and adults will create two different handmade book structures using decorative papers, collage, book board and glue. Then they can decorate, draw and personalize their books with colored pencils and markers. An artist will have examples of various artist books and journals on display for inspiration.

Project: “The Famous Purple Crayon”
How cool would it be to create your own reality by drawing! Well, that’s exactly what Charlie does in the famous purple crayon stories. In this class students will read (or be read) the purple crayon books, and then use that inspiration to draw their own realities, environment, and tell their own adventurous stories. This is a great mixed-media class for kids who love to work and experiment with many different drawing materials!

UPCOMING FAMILY FREE DAYS AT MN LANDSCAPE ARBORETUM
Minnetonka Center for the Arts is collaborating with the MN Landscape Arboretum to bring you a number of fun and “earth-friendly” Family Free Day activities throughout the summer months. Free Day events will take place outdoors (weather permitting) at the MN Landscape Arboretum. These events are open to all ages and skill levels so families can create art together to take home. Projects will be different at each event so that families can experience and learn about various art forms. So please join us for these free events and create fun art projects to take home. As always, Family Free Days are totally FREE and open to the public.

Come and create a dashing disguise! In this mixed-media class children and adults will make various kinds of hilarious hats and mysterious masks out of paper, tag board and cardboard. Then we will decorate projects with paints, markers, feathers and pipe cleaners, among other wacky mediums. People won’t know who’s masquerading under this creative camouflage!

Handmade Books Workshop

Bring the Family!
Join the Minnetonka Center for the Arts for a FREE Family Art Day at the 5th Annual Wayzata Art Experience. Whether you’re a budding artist, a hobbyist, or an art appreciator, this is a fun family-friendly activity for kids and adults. While walking around and enjoying the art, food and performances, stop into the Minnetonka Center for the Arts booth and create a handmade book project to take home. All materials and instruction are provided by instructors from the Minnetonka Center for the Arts. Just bring your creativity and possibly a story to write down, or a picture to draw in your new handmade book. This is a FREE activity sponsored by the Minnetonka Center for the Arts. Free and open to the public.
