Painting & Drawing Studio
Instructor: Holly Stone
Skill Level: B, AB, I

Beginners to advanced students will gain skill and insight into creating strong paintings using the media and style of their choice in this fun and challenging class. Choose to work in oil, acrylic, watercolor or pastels. Newcomers will learn specific techniques, design elements, color mixing hints and more in a supportive environment. Advanced students will be challenged to take their work to the next level, and be given personalized exercises to develop their unique style. Abstract? Impressionism? Realism? It's up to you! Bring supplies in the media of your choice to class. Those entirely new to painting may wait to discuss supplies with the instructor at the first class meeting. Enrollment limited to 16; ages 16 and up

Drawing Basics: A Friendly Introduction

Many people incorrectly think they are not creative or can't draw, when in reality they simply have not been taught the fundamental steps. In this beginning class, you will be introduced to basic drawing techniques and materials that will help build your skill level and increase your confidence. This is a great class for students who are interested in any type of media to learn about the fundamentals of art. Request a materials list when you register.

Contemporary Botanical Drawing
Instructor: Suzanne Galloway
Skill Level: All

This class will introduce students to the wonderful world of drawing botanical art in graphite pencil. We will begin with an introduction to types of botanical art, and discuss learning to "see" your subject. Beginning students will begin work on drawing forms and gradually work into adding detail. Intermediate students will begin by drawing a leaf. Request a supply list when you register. Enrollment limited to 12; ages 18 and up

Drawing Dynamics
Instructor: Michon Weeks
Skill Level: All

Drawing is a fundamental skill used in all creative visual arts. This class will provide step by step instruction in techniques such as contour line drawing, use of value and shading, how to measure proportions, perspective, and gesture. Advanced students are welcome to design their own projects and will receive individual guidance from the instructor. Bring 18" x 24" white drawing paper and drawing pencils to the first day of class. Enrollment limited to 16; ages 18 and up

Faculty:

Suzanne Galloway
B.A., Studio Art and Art History, DePauw University with additional coursework from the University of Minnesota, and MCAD; she has also studied with Barbara Nechis, John Salminen, Cheng Khee Chee, and Stephen Quiller, Her watercolors and drawings have been exhibited in multiple local, regional and national juried competitions and she has won several awards for her work. She returns to the Art Center as an instructor with over 10 years of teaching experience.

Britt Howe
Is an illustrator / sequential artist living in Plymouth, Minnesota. She received her B.F.A. in Sequential Art at The Savannah College of Art and Design, and thrives on illustrating comics and books involving animals, adventure and fantasy.

Shannon Ingham
B.F.A., Corcoran College of Art & Design, Washington, D.C., with awards and scholarships in drawing and painting. Study of art in the museum culture of Washington, D.C. was a great influence on Shannon’s decision to work as a full-time artist. Current work is to develop an expression of the experience of prairie and lakes of Midwest region, influenced by his immersion into the landscape while working on wind turbine projects. Experienced teaching students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

Holly Stone
B.S., Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Holly is an artist-educator who has taught oil painting, acrylics and watercolor locally since 1998. Her work is found in commercial and private collections. Holly has also worked in a number of capacities for a local theater troupe. She uses her occupational therapy background to assist people of all abilities to find expression in the arts.

Michon Weeks
M.F.A., Painting & Drawing, University of Minnesota, B.A., Art & Design, Iowa State University. Michon is a versatile and talented instructor with experience teaching as an Adjunct instructor at the College of St. Benedict and Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. She recently completed a series of 20 etched glass drawings in windows for the Marshall-Lyon County Library. Her logo design “Stingray” was also recently featured on pint glasses sold exclusively at the Walker Art Center Shop.
