Rattan Handles and Embellishments [WORKSHOP]
Instructor: Andy Juelich
Skill Level: All [WORKSHOP]

This workshop is designed for both new and continuing students who would like to learn how to use rattan for making handles and embellishments on pottery. Handles can be created on teapots, mugs, pitchers, and platters. These handles are not only functional, but allow the artist to create visual movement and to play with negative space to unify a piece. In the first hour, the instructor will demonstrate how to connect, join and build rattan handles. During the remaining time, students will work on their own piece with the instructor's guidance. At the end of the workshop, students will be able to build, dye, varnish and complete their own project. Note: students should bring a piece of their own work (pottery, wood, metal, or...) to the workshop. Enrollment limited to 20; ages 16 and up
